Leiden Chen

UX designer, also architect and landscape architect

UoA/Unitec/Lincoln (NZ) alum of MArch (Prof.), BAS, and BLA.

I’m passionate about designing natural and joyful experiences.

Background

I come from a background in landscape and architectural design, with over four years of experience creating thoughtful, user-centered spaces in residential, public, and urban environments. My work in these fields taught me the importance of designing for people—understanding their needs, behaviors, and emotions to create environments that are not only functional but also meaningful and engaging.

In landscape and architecture, designing user experiences happens on a spatial level. I learned how to research user habits, collaborate closely with clients, and translate their vision into spaces that enhance their daily lives. These principles have deeply influenced my approach to UX design, where I now focus on crafting digital experiences that are equally intuitive, accessible, and impactful.

I see a strong connection between designing physical spaces and digital interfaces: both require empathy, a balance between aesthetics and functionality, and a deep understanding of how users interact with their environment. This perspective shapes my UX design philosophy, which prioritizes solving problems creatively, enhancing user satisfaction, and delivering seamless, meaningful interactions. By integrating my spatial design experience, I bring a unique and holistic approach to creating user-centered digital solutions.

Things I Love

I find inspiration in the world around me. I love to travel and experience different cultures, which often informs my design choices. When I'm not creating, you can find me out riding my motorbike, or shredding the slopes on my snowboard during the winter season. Also a dad of 3 cats :)
