Define

Research highlights the critical role of mental health breaks in reducing stress and enhancing emotional resilience, with leisure activities such as hiking, café visits, and city exploration contributing significantly to anxiety reduction and increased happiness. Concurrently, insights from fashion psychology reveal that clothing influences mood, confidence, and self-expression, serving as a powerful tool for emotional well-being. Despite these benefits, challenges like decision fatigue and the overwhelming nature of fashion trends often hinder effective outfit selection.

Pop-up User Research

8 pop-up interviews via Zoom with participants fitting the target demographic: women aged 20–35 who take intentional mental health breaks or leisure days. The participants, including young professionals, students, and moms, had diverse backgrounds and living situations. The interviews focused on understanding user behaviour and challenges surrounding outfit planning for leisure activities.

The interview guide is structured around three main stages of outfit decision-making: Before the Day-Off, During the Day-Off, and Reflections After the Day-Off. Each stage aimed to uncover participants’ pain points, expectations, and the impact of modern lifestyle pressures (e.g., stress, decision fatigue, and societal norms) on their fashion choices.

Research Insights

Time and energy constraints make outfit planning an afterthought.
Decision fatigue leads to repetitive or uninspired clothing choices.
Low confidence in styling skills creates frustration and dissatisfaction.
Overwhelmed by trends results in disengagement or avoidance.
A lack of accessible solutions creates unsupported feelings in their fashion decisions.

Ideation

Crazy 8s

By prioritizing a clean interface and a few key functions, Off-Set addresses core user pain points while ensuring an intuitive and seamless experience.

Users often experience decision fatigue, especially when planning outfits after a busy week. A simple website minimizes mental effort, allowing users to focus on the task at hand without being overwhelmed by unnecessary features or options.

Streamlining the interface with only a few core functions—such as browsing themes, viewing outfit galleries, and saving looks—enables users to achieve their goals quickly. This is critical for time-constrained users who value efficiency.

The platform is designed to enhance users’ leisure days, not add complexity. A straightforward design ensures the website itself contributes to the relaxing and enjoyable experience it seeks to support.

Design

User empowerment

By eliminating distractions and unnecessary features, the website empowers users to make confident fashion decisions quickly and easily. This reinforces Off-Set’s role as a stress-free, supportive platform.

Visual + emotional appeal

The minimalist design reflects the calming, coffee-inspired aesthetic of the brand, aligning with the idea of mental health and relaxation. Clean layouts and soft tones contribute to a serene browsing experience.

Scalability for growth

Starting with a focused set of core features creates a strong foundation for the platform. As user needs evolve, additional features can be integrated thoughtfully without compromising the simplicity.
