The first stage of the project focuses on a masterplan that will lay the groundwork for Manukau’s transformation. The goal is to reimagine the site as a Pacific cultural center, a place where the richness of Auckland's diverse heritage is celebrated and shared.

To achieve this, the masterplan prioritizes the development of a vibrant and inclusive community. Efforts will focus on increasing long-term residency, particularly for low-income households, to create a stable, thriving population. Economic opportunities will be expanded, supporting small businesses and entrepreneurial ventures that reflect the area's cultural identity.

Equally important is the creation of a unique urban identity. Manukau will be positioned as a destination that draws visitors from across Auckland and beyond, offering modern ecological, cultural, and leisure experiences. Connectivity within the area will also be improved, with better walkability and accessibility between existing and proposed facilities to ensure a cohesive and inviting urban environment.

In its second stage, Unlock Manukau introduces a mixed-use residential development that will serve as a centerpiece of the revitalized area. Located in the heart of Manukau, the development features two distinct structures: a five-story mixed-use building and a semi-open commercial glasshouse.

The mixed-use building is designed to balance residential and commercial needs. The lower two floors will provide retail and business spaces, fostering job creation and supporting the growth of local enterprises. Above, three stories of residential units will offer diverse housing options, catering to a range of needs while encouraging a sense of community stability.

Complementing this is the glasshouse, a semi-open structure with a dual purpose. On the ground floor, it will host catering businesses, offering a platform for local food and beverage enterprises to thrive. The upper floor will serve as a community hub, a space for events, workshops, and social gatherings that enrich the cultural and social fabric of Manukau.
